EMBA courses at Baltic Management Institute (BMI), Vilnius, for THM MBA students

In the context of the cooperation between the THM MBA program and the BMI, Vilnius, as of now, THM MBA students* and alumni can take part in additional modules of the EMBA program at BMI in Vilnius. The BMI EMBA modules are listed below.

After the start of our MBA group XIV in October, the students have already successfully completed their first module “Foundation of Business Administration” through which everyone got a good overview of relevant business processes and basic financial and accounting rules. Special feature of this module was a business simulation game in which the group was divided up into teams to compete against each other in a business simulation. Besides getting to know each other and having a lot of fun, the students also learned how businesses processes basically work – a prerequisite for all later modules.

On the 15th of October 2016 at Klassikstadt, Frankfurt Main, the 11th Alumni Day of THM MBA School took place. A great location with the flair of an old, completely renewed factory where we could admire sport cars of the last generation, like Bugatti, Lamborghini, McLaren, Maserati and Ferrari, and wonderful old-timer cars of different epochs. From Mercedes 190 SL through Porsche competition, Alfa Romeo Sprint, Lancia Fulvia, VW T1 Bulli, Citroen 2CV and the legendary VW Beatle. All perfectly restored by experienced car mechanics and upholsterers, whose workshops are located in the Klassikstadt.

Not only was the location perfect. This Alumni Day sets records:

- Over 50 participants - record for this format
- 10 students from our partner university in Bergamo from a course of 13 - another record.
- Great speakers: the journalist and TV moderator Don Jordan and the airline pilot Philip Keil. 

Of course, there was plenty of time for networking, which is maybe the most important part: meeting the old fellows and make acquaintance of the alumni of the other courses. 

This July, 24 EMBA students & alumni as well as Jaunius Pusvaskis, Director General BMI, and Jurga Bendikaitė Ursavas, Director EMBA program BMI, came to Germany for a three-day special module Innovation and Industrie 4.0.

The Baltic Management Institute (BMI) is a new cooperation partner of the THM MBA program.

The special module was a first step of the cooperation between the two programs with more to come (and to be announced soon). THM MBA students & alumni also joined the program and took the opportunity to take part in this extracurricular, value-adding event.

At the THM Business School as in other Business Schools dealing with executive MBA programs, the percentage of female executive MBA students is still below 50%.

Our program aims at pushing this number and addresses females interested in our executive program to apply for the partial scholarship (value € 3.750 €).

Im Mai dieses Jahres hat Greenpeace mit seiner Veröffentlichung der sog. „TTIP-Leaks“-Dokumente die öffentliche Diskussion zum Thema TTIP neu entfacht. Die Fachzeitschrift „Wirtschaftsdienst“ hat diesen Vorgang deshalb zu ihrem „Thema des Monats“ gemacht und hierzu in ihre Juniausgabe einen Artikel von Prof. Dr. Reimers eingestellt: „Folgt nach „TTIP Leaks“ nun doch „TTIP Light“ ?

Das Transatlantische Handels- und Investitionspartnerschaft (TTIP) wird in Fachkreisen und der Öffentlichkeit kontrovers diskutiert. "Die kürzlich als "TTIP Leaks" bekannt gewordenen Veröffentlichungen zum Verhandlungsstand des TTIP-Abkommens haben der Öffentlichkeit die konträren Verhandlungspositionen beider Seiten etwas transparenter gemacht und sie so einmal mehr für die kritischen Aspekte von TTIP sensibilisiert", erläutert Hayo Reimers in der aktuellen Ausgabe des Wirtschaftsdienst.

Daher sei offen, ob die bisherige gemeinsame Verhandlungsstrategie, TTIP nur als Ganzes und nicht in Teilen (TTIP Light) zu akzeptieren, sich noch aufrechterhalten lasse. Für TTIP spricht die Schaffung von mehr Wachstum, Wohlstand und Beschäftigung in beiden Regionen. Strittig sind die Themen Verbraucherschutz, öffentliches Beschaffungswesen und das Investitionsschutzabkommen.

Einige dieser kontrovers diskutierten Themen enthalten durchaus Potenzial für ein beiderseitiges Entgegenkommen.

Dies gelte insbesondere für Bereiche des Verbraucherschutzes im Agrarhandel, aber auch für die Verfahrensweisen des Investitionsschutzes. In anderen Bereichen des Verbraucherschutzes oder des Schutzes umwelt- oder arbeitsrechtlicher Standards scheint eine kurzfristige Einigung schwieriger.

Solche strittigen Themen könnten ganz aus dem Abkommen herausgelöst werden. "Und letztlich schließt dieser 'TTIP Light'-Ansatz ja nicht die Möglichkeit aus, weiter an einer Einigung in diesen Fragen zu arbeiten und sie später in TTIP zu integrieren", schließt Reimers.

Last month our long-time coordinator for the foreign exchange module at Pfeiffer University in Charlotte, USA passed away after a long illness. 

Born in Neviges, Germany on Nov. 25, 1944 Uli Fröhlich migrated to the US to study at SUNY Albany University, N.Y. He completed his studies with a PhD in Germanic languages and literatures in 1980. He joined the Appalachian State University as a German generalist, building up programs in Germany and the US to enable students to study languages and humanities in the country of origin. After arriving at Pfeiffer University in Charlotte, N.C. in 1997, he founded the Academy of International Business Studies, which today includes 24 cooperating universities in Germany as well as a partnership with IPFM in Prague, Czech Republic. Furthermore, he was director of a health care management program in Germany and Austria.

All throughout his life he was a traveler between continents and a vivid promoter of student exchanges. As an “ambassador” for both the US and Europe he created countless connections between people of different cultures.

We have had the great pleasure to work with Uli Fröhlich since the start of our Executive MBA Program in 2002 benefitting from his great network and ability to organize high class seminars and speakers as well as insightful company visits and social events giving our students an authentic and memorable experience of the US business environment and cultural life.

We are not only losing a highly competent partner to provide excellent management education programs for our students at Pfeiffer but we are also losing a great friend.

The THM Business School has been offering and running its Executive MBA program since 2002. Next to the current partners abroad – Pfeiffer University, Charlotte, NC, USA and University of Bergamo, Italy – we are glad to announce a new partnership with the Baltic Management Institute (BMI), Vilnius, Lithuania.

BMI also offers an Executive MBA program. Its first group started 1997. It is one of the most prestigious programs in Central and Eastern Europe cooperating with leading European business schools such HEC School of Management, Paris, NHH School of Economics, Bergen, and Copenhagen Business School.

Prof. Dr. Joachim Sandt, co-program director of the THM Business School MBA program, elaborated opportunities of working together with Jaunius Pusvaskis, director of the BMI in the first quarter of this year (see photo). Possible forms of cooperating are modules in Vilnius (for THM MBA students) and in Germany (for BMI MBA students) and special exchange programs. We keep you informed as soon as offers are definite.

Lithuania and the Baltic countries form a highly interesting and dynamic region. By being member in the NATO, EU and the EURO Lithuania is well integrated in Europe politically and economically. Its 2.8 mio. citizens are very internationally oriented. In account of its location and history Lithuania is a gateway to the Russian and Belarussian societies and markets.

Buongiorno tutti!
Bergamo is the second trip during the MBA and also is the last module, so the last chance to meet the friends we made during the MBA, in the learning environment. I personally wondered, what will await me on this trip. After that wonderful and teaching voyage to the US everything else seemed to look pale in comparison. And by the way, Italy, they are our neighbours, what could be so different there?

Wir wünschen unserem MBA- XII Klassensprecher, Eike Thomas weiterhin gute Besserung.
