Answers to frequently asked questions about the MBA program of the FH Giessen - Frieberg.
The Executive MBA Program at the University of Applied Sciences Giessen is a 24-month program incl. MBA Thesis work.

Each year a new course starts in October. In special cases a side entry until March is possible.

There are 24 two-day modules, held on Friday evening 5pm to 9pm and Saturday from 9am to 6pm. Furthermore participants have to attend classes in 2 blocks of one week, one of which is held as a company simulation game at the beginning of the program and one is held abroad at one of our Partner University in the UK. In addition students spend an intercultural semiar weekend at the partner university in Bergamo/Italy. The exams for module sections (e.g. financial accounting) are delivered at the beginning of the following module (from 9-10.30am).

Yes, attendance of the training days is a requirement.

On average, you should anticipate spending between approx. 10 hours per week on homework, including meeting times and time spent reviewing course materials. Depending on the course topic as well as on individual habits, this time may vary.

The MBA-curriculum emphasizes general management and leadership development and is highly applied and geared towards providing the skills and toolsets needed by individuals to lead organizations successfully. A further focus is put on the areas of strategic management, sales and marketing.

As this is a "lock step" program, participants take the same classes at the same time. There will be opportunities during specific courses for participants to focus on certain industries or functions, but the overall focus of the program is on the competencies needed at the executive level, and therefore no majors or electives are on offer.

We target a class of 16 to 18 students.

You will be assigned to a group that will include up to three or four of your peers. Although not all class work will be assigned as a group task, we recognize that many decisions in the work environment are done within a group of colleagues.

The Executive MBA (EMBA) program is structured to meet the needs of individuals in senior management roles, focusing on leadership skills needed to be successful at the executive level. Specifically, the program targets participants who have had generally 2-10 years of work experience, with significant experience in a managerial/supervisory role. The collective professional experience of EMBA participants enriches the learning experience both in and outside the classroom. Due to the part time delivery of classes (Friday evening/Saturday-all-day every 2 weeks) there is no break in the professional career, most students work fulltime. A fulltime program is 1 to 2.5 years in duration. The younger candidates are looking at their MBA experience as a way to "jump-start" their career as well as to explore different career options. The full-time program allows for a focus area (i.e. consulting, finance, marketing). Most of the students have studied business administration before and have nearly no professional experience. They combine internship and/or or a 4 month abroad study stay. Other academics than business administration might study for a longer time to acquire foundations like the ones who have already a business administration degree.
